About Us

Our Story

The concept for Stella V.ie Cafe began as an idea for a food trailer. Chef Virginette wanted to share foods from her personal creations and those of her chef friends with whomever was up for the experience. However, when presented with an opportunity to take the food trailer concept and apply it to a brick and mortar, she gladly accepted and opened up a quaint cafe in downtown Hammond, IN. Not long after the cafe’s one year anniversary, Stella V.ie Cafe had the opportunity to open up a second location in the Hammond Federal Courthouse, where the business currently resides.

“Our first location at 5246 Hohman Ave, will always hold a special place in my heart.  There I was able to actualize what began as a dream of one day owning my own cafe.  There I made many friends and shared many stories. Those connections and shared moments are the heart of why I do what I do.  Food not only nourishes our bodies, it nourishes our souls.”

Thank you Hammond Development Corporation, HDC, for supporting and encouraging me every step of the way.  5246 Hohman Ave. now serves as HDC’s Food Entrepreneur Program Pop-Up Cafe for current, new and aspiring food businesses. Virginette Fitzpatrick

Founder & Pastry Chef

Born and raised in Louisville, KY, Owner Virginette Fitzpatrick completed her study of culinary arts in 2005, graduating from Jefferson Community & Technical College, located in her hometown.

While working as a cafe manager, Virginette was awarded the ultimate experience. She accepted a scholarship from Women Chefs and Restaurateurs to attend La Varenne Culinary School in France.

During her training, Virginette worked at La Chocolaterie de Pont Aven where she discovered her passion for pastry and a different perspective of the world around her.  Upon completion of the program and return to the United States, she solidified her love for food and pastry-making, deciding to start her entrepreneurial journey to Stella V.ie Cafe.

Love is a universal language that can be expressed in cuisine. Chef Virginette uses food as a way to connect with people, express love, show appreciation, and create happy memories.
